Corrib Field – Shell E&P Ireland
An operability study to look at life-of-field flow assurance and interface issues associated with the Corrib field for Shell E&P Ireland was recently completed by Xodus.

The study looked at the available operating envelope of the Corrib system throughout field life and identified the factors limiting the envelope, including an operability review of the methanol injection system.

Corrib has a continuous methanol injection strategy for hydrate management and a robust approach to methanol distribution, injection, regeneration and storage was required to ensure acceptable operability from the field.

Xodus adopted a novel, risk-based approach to this taking into account factors such as expected formation water breakthrough and timing, methanol distribution limitations and onshore regeneration, storage and injection constraints.

Other key aspects of the of the study included impact of the newly designed IOPPS system on the operability of Corrib, identification of options from end-of-life production enhancement and a review of the pipeline and terminal inlet safeguarding strategy and requirements.

The study resulted in a robust strategy for methanol injection that minimised the risks to the pipeline and terminal, clear indication of the operating envelope throughout field life and a revision to the IOPPS and terminal inlet safeguarding design.
