System
Optimisation
Xodus is a recognised industry leader in the field of system optimisation–this covers the integration of many analytical tools combined with industry leading engineers and proprietary optimisation software called XPLORE.
Optimisation can mean anything from carrying out a simple debottlenecking study through to installing the latest online multi-variable optimisation systems. Through our multi-disciplined and highly experienced team we can respond to the majority of clients requirements. We pride ourselves in our independence which allows us to look at each problem individually and apply the appropriate solution.
System optimisation can carry a different meaning depending on the phase of the project.

Conceptual phase
(Integrated Production Modelling)
Xodus personnel have system optimisation experience at the conceptual phase where modelling of the complete hydrocarbon chain from well to point of sale is performed at a simpler level, this tool is used to generate revenue and NPV predictions, and, by modelling value opportunities significant enhancements can be added to developments and provides insight into key factors critically influencing the project. For example, on large gas condensate projects, where additions in NPV of hundreds of millions of dollars over a field life of 25+ years have been generated. This integrated production modelling tool can be developed throughout the concept selection phase and into the execution phase where it can be used to screen design changes and for operator training.

FEED Phase
FEED phase design optimisation can readily e achieved by using advanced simulation tools such as dynamic simulation to develop an overall model of the process. This integrates the mechanical, process, instrument and control system design into a single model and allows a more robust and optimised solution to be developed and carried forward into detailed design. |

Detailed Design Phase
The dynamic model developed during the FEED phase can be expanded and developed further during the detailed design phase. Linking a topsides dynamic model to a subsea pipeline dynamic model is now relatively common and Xodus are industry leaders in this field. A truly integrated dynamic model from the sand face through to the export system provides an excellent tool for optimisation the system design, the system commissioning and the system startup. |
Online System Optimisation
System optimisation often relies on all the skill sets within Xodus and therefore requires a truly integrated approach. For example, pipeline or riser slugging quite often can have a major impact on production. Developing a solution can rely on a number of different resources; pipeline engineers, subsea control engineers, flow assurance engineers, instrument engineers, process engineers, software engineers and process control engineers. Xodus have all disciplines in house and therefore we can rapidly select the correct team for the project resulting in a fast and efficient response.
As discussed, system optimisation also relies on the team having access to the most advanced analytical tools. We regularly use OLGA®, Hysys® (Steady state and Dynamics), Multiflash, Pipesim and PROSPER/Gap to analyse systems and we also have access to a number of software tools such as XPLORE (production monitoring and optimisation) and XCOMP (compressor mapping and troubleshooting).
