Name: Jamie Redman
Age: 23
Job title: Process Engineer

Wanted to be? I always wanted to be a professional footballer. I still play semi-professional for Arbroath in the Scottish second division and when I was a junior I played for Aberdeen. I also played football for Edinburgh University when I was there studying engineering.

What does your job involve? Basically, I carry out studies on oil and gas installations and process calculations for things such as pipes, chemicals and the general engineering infrastructure. I then make recommendations on how a platform can optimise its production and also we offer advice on how to operate more safely. We supply operating data to our clients and suggest solutions, for example a client may need to adjust a rig layout and/or address bits of equipment that are not working properly.

Which exciting Xodus projects are you currently working on? I have just taken my first offshore trip to an installation based in the central North Sea as a follow up to a study I have been working on. This has been my biggest achievement to date as I have just passed my RGIT offshore safety training and I was able to visit an installation for the first time, which I found amazing.

Job Highlights? I am very fortunate that there is a lot of expertise in my team and I have learned many new skills from my colleagues here. I haven’t done much travelling with the job yet, but I look forward to travelling in the future with Xodus projects.

Worst bits? Well it’s been quite an adjustment from five years of flexible student life to working full time at Xodus, but I did do three summer work placements here so I knew the level of commitment I needed to succeed at Xodus. Being the new guy in the team is fun and refreshing and everyone has been really helpful.

Hobbies and interests? Football takes up most of my spare time at the moment. I train two nights a week and play every Saturday so it is still a big part in my life. I like to travel and recently got back from Cancun, Mexico, where I had a great time.
