Chiin Hooi-Tan flew the flag for Xodus at the prestigious 10th European Fluid Machinery Congress in Amsterdam in April.
The conference, attended by more than 90 delegates from 10 different countries, centred on advances in optimisation, design and maintenance of process machinery.
At the two day event held at the Victoria Hotel in Amsterdam, Chiin presented a paper entitled Improvement Management of Machinery – An Integrated Solution to an audience of major players from the global rotating equipment and engineering community including, MAN TURBO, Siemens, Elliot, Dresser-Rand and Sulzer.
Having submitted a synopsis for a potential paper, the board of congress invited Chiin, a senior process engineer with Xodus, to write a draft paper which was subject to a peer review and then put forward for presentation.
The paper, the first that Chiin had written and presented, examined the application of XPLORE, the Xodus Group proprietary monitoring tool, as an alternative to traditional discipline specific monitoring tools.
The 10th European Fluid Machinery Congress showcased the latest thinking and technology pertinent to the rotating equipment sector. Recognising that advances in exploitation and process technology have led to increasing pressure and temperature challenges for fluid machinery, the conference looked at how recent innovations such as XPLORE can be applied to achieve optimum availability and increased efficiency.
Chiin’s presentation detailed how the XPLORE XDM (Xodus Data Manager) has been developed to give the flexibility to accept data in virtually any form. Looking at how improvements in operation and performance of fluid machinery often involves technological advances in equipment design and process technology, Chiin explained how it is possible to achieve significant improvements in existing machinery, through improved monitoring techniques such as remote monitoring.
Detailing the Xodus multi-disciplinary approach, Chiin explained to delegates of the congress how a single, integrated approach by a multi-discipline team of Xodus engineers can be developed to provide an holistic view of a machine’s performance and operations.
Chiin also explained how XPLORE was developed by Xodus to operate alongside existing control systems and data historians, taking real-time data and using this to provide enhanced information on equipment and system operation.
Cementing their position as a leader in process engineering, this presentation by Xodus at one of the industry’s major events drew some interesting discussion and enquiries from the audience, and in general was extremely well received and indeed delivered by Chiin.
