Name: Nicola Stanger
Age: 23
Job title: Graduate Environmental Consultant
Wanted to be? A vet until I realised you had to be clever to do that!
What does your job involve? I am a Graduate Environmental Consultant based in Orkney having joined Xodus AURORA at the start of 2008. My role involves providing support to environmental consultants and clients primarily in the oil and gas sector. I am also involved in the aquaculture and renewable energy sectors.
Which field development projects are you currently working on? I am currently involved in the Chestnut, Grouse and Stamford field developments. The Chestnut development consists of two production wells and a water injection well tied-back to the Hummingbird FPSO which is the first doughnut FPSO in the North Sea, so it’s a really exciting project. The Stamford development is a single well tie-back to the Markham platform in the Dutch sector and the Grouse development is a single subsea tie-back to the Kittiwake Alpha Platform for processing and export.
Across these field development projects I have been doing the chemical permitting using Xodus proprietary PonTRAX software.
Job Highlights? Being part of a dynamic and diverse, close-knit team who work hard and play harder! The work is varied and challenging and our purpose-built office is a great place to work with outstanding views and an open plan office which is always good for a laugh.
Worst bits? Being stuck inside during the countless days of Mediterranean Orkney weather!
Best bits about Orkney? Young farmers and the summer agricultural shows where you can usually find me being dragged around a ring by a coo!
What’s been your greatest adventure? I’ve recently returned from a three month adventure travelling around Australia, New Zealand and LA. While I was away I did a 15,000ft sky dive over Lake Taupo in New Zealand. I was free falling for over a minute at 120mph looking over the stunning Lake Taupo region which was spectacular! I’ve definitely been bitten by the travel bug and can’t wait to go again. If anybody needs anything hand delivered to the Perth office then I’m your girl!
