The Xodus Group touch rugby team got their season off to a flying start after having a training session with Scotland International and Sale Sharks captain, Jason White.
At the end of March the Aberdeen team descended on Harlaw pitches to have their silky rugby skills assessed by Jason, and once he regained his composure, he was on hand to offer some advice on passing, movement and tactics. As this is the first year Xodus has entered a team in the Aberdeen Touch Rugby Tournament Novice Summer League, and most people had never even held a rugby ball, many were simply interested in learning how to catch the ball... never mind run with it.
Everyone was richer for the experience and the Xodus team key tactic was defined – give the ball to those who can run the fastest aka Craig Mackay and Bronagh McKendry. If the talent was questionable, the commitment wasn’t, with Xodus Oil & Gas Division director, Steve Swindell (no doubt buoyed by South Africa’s world cup glory) dusting off the old boots and running about like a man half his age, albeit for half the time.
The Xodus integrated approach to business was also evident on the pitch with staff from all the company Divisions taking part in the training session organised by process engineer, Susi ‘Sparkle’ Wiseman and Xodus environmentalist, Nick Jacob, both of whom make up the Xodus touch rugby coaching team and referees.
With the league now underway, the Xodus team has played four games and won two, which is not a bad start – go team Xodus!
