Geophysical surveys for geohazard assessments generally use a suite of various sensor packages to acquire many types of data, from the seafloor, all the way down to around 2000 meters below the seabed. These sensor packages can produce datasets which range from extremely large exploration surveys that can cover hundreds, if not thousands of square kilometres, used to determine possible locations of new prospective reservoirs or offshore wind sites, down to tightly spaced ultra-high-resolution surveys performed on small sections of the seafloor and may only cover a few kilometres. Each of these sensor packages provide different, yet equally important datasets which cover various aspects of the geohazard assessment.
Once the data has been acquired, that is when our team comes in. After we receive the data from a site survey, our geophysical experts load it into specialized software. This software allows us to view, analyze, and manipulate the data to produce data compilations. Our highly experienced team then determines whether a location contains any potential problems or hazards which may cause issues later during future operations or site developments.
