Xodus Geohazard - This Is What We Do.

Xodus’ geohazard team are industry leaders in undertaking geohazard studies.

The former Ocean Geo Solutions team, which is now part of Xodus, are experts at de-risking energy development exploration and production sites, not just in financial terms, but in terms of mitigating any ground integrity issues that may lead to environmental disasters. Our team provides excellence in geophysical interpretations, providing both oil and gas operators and wind developers confidence that they can use to develop their sites safely.

Geophysical surveys for geohazard assessments generally use a suite of various sensor packages to acquire many types of data, from the seafloor, all the way down to around 2000 meters below the seabed. These sensor packages can produce datasets which range from extremely large exploration surveys that can cover hundreds, if not thousands of square kilometres, used to determine possible locations of new prospective reservoirs or offshore wind sites, down to tightly spaced ultra-high-resolution surveys performed on small sections of the seafloor and may only cover a few kilometres. Each of these sensor packages provide different, yet equally important datasets which cover various aspects of the geohazard assessment.

Once the data has been acquired, that is when our team comes in. After we receive the data from a site survey, our geophysical experts load it into specialized software. This software allows us to view, analyze, and manipulate the data to produce data compilations. Our highly experienced team then determines whether a location contains any potential problems or hazards which may cause issues later during future operations or site developments.

Our analysis is typically focused on seabed and sub-seabed geohazards. If issues are identified, our team will make recommendations that can range from outlining a low-risk course of action, to relocating operations if the determined constraints of a location are unavoidable:

Hazards at or near the seabed:

  • Surficial Instability / Slumping
  • Fluid Expulsion Sites and Fluid Seeps
  • Sensitive Habitats
  • Seabed Fault Intersections
  • Drainage Features – Channels and Canyons
  • Adverse Sediment Conditions at Seabed
  • Shipwrecks / Man-Made Debris
  • Extant Pipelines

Sub-seabed hazards:

  • Shallow Gas
  • Gas Hydrates
  • Faulting
  • Shallow Water Flows
  • Mass Transport Complexes (MTC)
